There are many types of yeast infections: Oral infections or Thrush, Skin fold infections or Intertrigo, Nail fold infections, Penile infection or Balanitis, Genital infection in women or Vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Candidiasis, the general name for yeast infections, can occur when the body's defenses are low. Other contributing factors include living in a warm climate, pregnancy, contraceptive pills, diabetes, iron deficiency and overuse of antibiotics, Additionally, if you have some skin disease such as lichen planus, psoriasis, etc., you are more likely to develop a yeast infection. Candidiasis is also a problem with those who are on long-term steroids use or those who have HIV infection.

Candidiasis is caused by the yeast candida, a fungus. Candida is a common name of a group of yeasts, the trouble maker is c.albicans. Candida is common yeast which lives along with the normal bacteria (the good bacteria) in the human digestive track. Normally it is not a problem, but attacks occur whenever the body's immune system is weakened.
